Ure for their master a dangerous artefact that could spell their doomABOUT THE BOOKA dark eldar short story by Andy. Not the best of Chambers Dark Eldar tales but still a good read There's lots of action sneaking infiltration and suspense in this one and that's all good but you really need to read the Path of the Renegade to fully appreciate it and how it fits in a greater context

Andy Chambers has been around in the 40k universe for as long as I can remember and he's written some fantastic material in that time I picked up this story because I am reading the Path of the Dark Eldar and it is the first story in the omnibus I wasn't sure what to expect having only read one other story of his in regards to the Dark EldarThis story is not much The bonded pair who are our protagonists for this tale don't really ever get flushed out They are nothing than skilled warrior assassins sent on a mission and that's pretty much it Even between their interactions they don't grow as a characters rather they just exist to push the action forward seeming to react to everything rather than being proactive This makes for a very uninteresting story despite there being a lot of action in the storyAnd the dialogue between the pair is hard to deal with often feeling stilted and lackluster Here are beings that enjoy pain have a sense of duty to their master and who are bonded to each other like no other And yet their conversations back and forth are boring often nothing than one line Any and all sympathy or relation to them that could have been formed by the reader is snatched away because of this leaving behind two characters that honestly I could have cared less about Still the action in this short story was done pretty well The action scenes flowed from one to the next really well and kept things going It also had a nice if brief look at the webway and how it was formed and the dimensions within which was nice But the Dark Eldar feel that can be found in Chambers' other works is missing here which is sad as it would have added some much needed flavor to this tale In the end worth reading if you are going to delve into the Path of the Dark Eldar but otherwise not really worth reading unless you want something nice and short to pass away a few minutes
